I hade 50mm cevlar toothed belt on Yamaha with injection and turbo.
The problem was not the power.
The propeller setting was 8000 rpm at full throttle.
When i throttle back the sound and vibration was some different in 5400 to 5800 rpm.
At that time i did not know why sound and vibration was different in that rpm area.
So in the beginning i did not use that rpm. when i use 6000 rpm or more, it was ok.
One day i was instructing a student, we get in a updraft, the student's learning mission was speed and direction (first hour).
I then throttle back to 5800 rpm to keep same hight. The strange sound and feeling was there, but since i did not know what this was i keep on flying whit that rpm.
Afte 2 minuts it was bang and no propulsion.
So the problem with belt drive system can be destructive internal vibration on specific rpm area.
